Oak (3D Platformer Character)

Self bust, artist Jacob James. Portrait sculpture exploration of technique.

Artist Self Bust

A self bust created immediately post university. The face was first sculpted in Zbrush to define shape and detail, creating a high poly sculpt for later detail mapping. The Sculpt was exported to Maya for retopology. This project was not intended for a game ready experience, however retopology was conducted as if it were, keeping edge flow and poly counts efficient. Hair was created using Xgen in Maya. The final renders were created in Maya using the Arnold rendering engine as necessitated by the use of Xgen for the hair.

Great Horned Rat (Total War: Warhammer II)

University project to create a character mesh from concept art provided. The Great Horned Rat concept for Total War: Warhammer II was chosen as the subject. The character was first sculpted in Zbrush to define the character and create a high detail sculpt and then imported into Maya to create a low poly, game ready version of the character. The character is presented in Unreal Engine, as a video game character and game ready mesh, presentation in a game engine felt like an essential element of effective presentation of the effectiveness of the character mesh.
